Hi Notlos: Great to read your post here. Have you attended or played any cool jazz gigs lately? The XD-9 sounds exciting and a STRONG purchasing consideration for me. 1) Are the acoustic piano(s) sample(s) the same one used on the SD1 or? I hope they're a LOT better than the one on the X1. 2) How do the XD-9 sounds/styles compare to the SD1/X1? I assume that with 61 keys, that it is quite a bit smaller than the SD1. What are the XD-9's dimensions? 3) Any hard drive or mass storage device included or available as an add on option? 4) Notlos, since I know that you appreciate & play jazz standards & latin (bossa) music too, how many acoustic jazz swing/brush and bossa/latin styles are included on this board? 5) I know that the Sd1 is a fantastic board, so what features on the SD1 (except for 76 vs 61 keys) are MISSING on the XD-9? 6) And lastly (I knew you would be wondering WHEN I was going to ask this ): Does the XD-9 support the Bill Evans jazz style 'rootless voicings' that is included on the SD1? This feature is supported in split keyboard mode on the SD1, so I HOPE that the XD-9 does too. WHEN will the XD-9 be released in the USA? If the XD-9 meets the above criteria, this may be the PERFECT time for me to FINALLY purchase a Ketron-Solton keyboard. Best Regards, Scott http://scottyee.com [This message has been edited by Scottyee (edited 04-04-2002).]

Thanks Dan! The important thing (to me) is if the 172 styles on the XD9 (vs 309 on the SD1) are 'the important styles' I would find most useful for my music specialty: jazz swing, brushes, lounge ballads, big band, and latin & blues/funk. Is there a listing of the XD9's styles and sounds available anywhere yet? How much smaller and lighter is the XD9 compared to the SD1? The SD1 has a very small footprint for a 76 note keyboard. One of the reasons is because the pitch bend/mod wheels are located above the keybed. Are the wheels located above the XD9's keybed as well? I see that the weight is 35 lbs. Please provide the XD9's dimensions if possible. Great to hear that the XD9 has built in speakers too. I typically like to use them as a monitor. Any new speaker design enhancements compared to the X1? Also, is the XD9's keyboard feel similar to the SD1 (hopefully) or more like the X1's? I must admit that I've become pretty spoiled with the lightweight (24 lb) and compact size of the Yamaha PSR2000, so size and weight have become an important consideration. Notlos & DanO: Looking forward to seeing (pics), hearing (MP3 demos), and reading more reports about the XD9 as they become available. This definitely looks to be an exciting year for arranger keyboards. DanO: I hope you're right about the XD9 supporting the rootless voicings (like the SD1). I know this isn't important to many others here, but for piano comping jazz standard styles, it's essential. Can you possibly email Sandro to confirm that this will actually be implemented? Dan: btw, I hope you can contact Justin (Guitar Center associate you used to work with in your Baltimore store) to arrange getting arranger keyboards (especially Ketron -Solton) in the San Francisco Bay area Guitar Centers: specifically the East Bay El Cerrito store. Unfortunately no one at the Guitar Centers around here knows about Solton-Ketron keyboards. Hopefully you can work with Justin to change that. Thanks, Scott

Let me see if I can satisfy all questions with just one post! For Scott: 1) Are the acoustic piano(s) sample(s) the same one used on the SD1? >>> Identical. 2) How do the XD-9 sounds/styles compare to the SD1/X1? >>> A little of both but with a whole lot more new styles. 3) Any hard drive or mass storage device included or available as an add on option? >>> Yes, HD 7 Flash Cards. 5) I know that the Sd1 is a fantastic board, so what features on the SD1 (except for 76 vs 61 keys) are MISSING on the XD-9? >>> Some include Wave Sync, Sampler ... 6) And lastly (I knew you would be wondering WHEN I was going to ask this ): Does the XD-9 support the Bill Evans jazz style 'rootless voicings' that is included on the SD1? >>> Yes in both split and full keyboard modes. Also, is the XD9's keyboard feel similar to the SD1 (hopefully) or more like the X1's? >>> Similar to SD1 keyboard fill but with 61 keys instead! Great to hear that the XD9 has built in speakers too. I typically like to use them as a monitor. Any new speaker design enhancements compared to the X1? >>> Yes - Special enhanced Bass Boost circuitary, speakers & ports! Unfortunately no one at the Guitar Centers around here knows about Solton-Ketron keyboards. Hopefully you can work with Justin to change that. >>> Work is currently in progress to expand marketing of KETRON products, including other Guitar Centers. For Mario: Short and sweet question. Is the manual anything like the X1s/SD1? >>> The manual will be more detailed (I am currently working on it now). More info can be found on the Italian website ( www.ketronclub.it) wrt size, dimensions etc. Thanks, AJ
